It's A Wild Day! (At the Houston Zoo!)

Monday, February 7  {What an Egyptian ExPat Refugee does in Houston}

I began this day feeling at loose ends with myself because Sam went to the office to work while some of the other spouses went to visit friends in Houston, or went shopping for warm clothes, or had other things to tend to. I don't feel like doing any handwork so I am rather 'antsy' to get out! It looks like it will be a nice day...the sun is shining!

Andrea and her kids, Luke and Abby, and I went to the Houston zoo. Andrea is from Canada and I was really impressed with her adventuresome spirit; driving in Houston traffic having never been here before! Andrea has a GPS and we used it to find our way to the zoo. There are a lot of cars on the highways, but they stay in their lanes and follow the traffic laws...for the most part!

It was a pretty, sunny but chilly day out; exactly what the kids and Andrea and I needed! We needed to be out and get rid of some stored up energy and tension! The Houston zoo is really nice. It is clean, not too big and it has very nice exhibits. I am going to showcase some of my favorite animals from the Houston Zoo. I saw some animals here that I have never seen anywhere before.

While we watched, the zoo keepers came around with bags of peas for the primates.They chewed into the bottom of the sacks and ate the peas out of them. One little monkey had trouble. She chewed the hole, then she discovered the open top of the bag. She tipped the bag and all the peas rolled out onto the ground!

Luke really wanted to go in to the reptile barn. It was very interesting to search for the reptiles who were perfectly camouflaged in their habitats.

                                      This is an animal I have not seen before, and I don't remember it's name!

This zoo has 2 baby elephants. I enjoyed watching them play in their enclosure.

It was a great day at the zoo. While the animals were outstanding and the day gorgeous, the best part of the day was spending it with friends and making memories! During this time of displacement, it felt so good to do something 'normal'!

Once we finished at the zoo, we went to Good Company for BBQ. The kids liked it and ate all of their lunches after the initial ewwing and fussing about not liking BBQ! What fresh air and running around does for an appetite is wonderful! We had a moment of concern when we tried to get back home. It seemed the GPS quit working. After some tapping and thumping, it picked back up again and off we went...straight to the hotel without a glitch!  We were all tired so headed to our separate rooms for a siesta until later this evening.
